Monte Carlo Biscuits

Monte Carlos are one of my favourite types of biscuits, but I'd never made my own before.I used the recipe by Taste and they where delicious!

     Ingredients

1/3 cup brown sugar1 teaspoon vanilla essence1 egg3/4 cup self raising flour1/2 cup of plain flour1/3 cup desiccated coconutRaspberry jam
Buttercream60g butter, softened3/4 cup icing sugar1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence

Preheat the oven to 180° or 160° fan-forced. And line 3 baking trays with baking paper.

Using an electric mixer, beat the brown sugar, butter and vanilla essence. Beat until light and fluffy.

Add an egg to the mixture and mix it until it's combined.

Sift in both kinds of flour and stir to combine. Then stir in the coconut.

Roll the mixture into little balls and place them about 3 cm apart. Lightly dip a fork in flour and
lightly flatten each biscuit, making Criss-cross pattern on top.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until they are light golden.
Wait for them to cool.

While this is happening make the buttercream. Use an electric mixer to beat the butter, icing sugar and vanilla. Then sandwich the biscuits with one teaspoon of buttercream and one teaspoon of jam. Then they are ready to eat!

Enjoy!

Toadstool Time

Sorry for not posting in a while, but I am back again with another D.I.Y. here's what I made:

And here's how I did it:

Step one: Grab a bowl, a cup of flour, a cup of water, Glad Wrap, glue, old newspaper, plain white paper, your base (mine was a minnie bowl and tubey thing), red glitter(optional), white and red paint(white not in picture sorry!) a paint brush and scissors.

Step two: Cover your base items in Glad Wrap. We will be doing paper mache so this will keep the items clean.

Step three: Add the flour and water to the bowl and stir with your paint brush.

Step four: Rip or cut up strips of newspaper.

Step five: Dip the strips of newspaper in the paper mache mix. and stick them onto your base items, you will need to do quite a lot of layers to make it thick enough. To make painting it easier I did the last few layers in white paper.

Step six: leave it to dry (it may take a while) and pull the base out from the paper mache.

Step seven: Paint the top of the toadstool red

Step eight: Lightly sprinkle the top of your toadstool with red glitter, and leave it to dry.

Step nine: Cut out some spots.

Step ten: Paint the bottom of the toadstool in white

Step eleven: Put the top bit of the toadstool on to top of the bottom bit of toadstool and stick on the spots.

Step twelve: Draw some grass, a door and a window on the toadstool. Then it's done!
